Plain language about what Exist Forever stores, why, and how family access works. Last updated August 2026.

What we store

  • Account details you provide when you register: name, email, and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
  • Your agent's profile: display name, personality, speaking style, life roles, values, and introduction.
  • Stories and memories you write on your personal page, including whether each one is shared with family.
  • Invites you create (invitee name, optional email, relationship, and a secret link token) and messages guests leave on a presence page.
  • Contact form messages, including a salted hash of the submitter's IP used only for abuse prevention — not the raw address.

Why we store it

  • To run your account and show your personal page.
  • To let family open the private presence links you create and read only the stories you mark as shared.
  • To deliver contact replies and keep a durable copy if mail delivery fails.
  • To rate-limit abuse without keeping unnecessary identity data.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your stories, profile, or contact messages.
  • We don't put you on marketing lists from the contact form.
  • We don't show invitee emails or other invites on a guest presence page.
  • We don't claim secret links are as strong as a password-protected account — treat them like keys, and revoke them when someone shouldn't have access anymore.

Who can see what

  • Only you (when signed in) can manage your full profile, private stories, invites, and guest messages.
  • Anyone with an active invite link can see your agent's introduction and stories marked shared with family, and can leave a message.
  • Site operators with server access can see database contents as needed to keep the service running — the same reality as any self-hosted or hosted app.

Retention

  • Account and agent data remain until you ask us to remove them or delete your account through a supported process.
  • Revoking an invite stops further access; past guest messages you received stay on your inbox until removed by a future tools we may add, or by request.
  • Contact messages are kept so we can reply and investigate delivery problems.

Self-hosting

  • Exist Forever is designed so you can run the software yourself. When you self-host, your privacy practices are yours to define; this policy describes the hosted experience on existforever.com.
